Gianni Franco Papa

Gianni Franco Papa is a senior-level executive with 40 years’ experience in the banking sector.

Mr. Papa has extensive international experience and a proven history of increasing productivity and executing turnarounds of complex situations.  From 2016 to 2019 he was the Group General Manager of UniCredit SpA, responsible for all the Group’s business operations, as well as acting as Advisor to the CEO for special projects and the completion of the Group strategic plan.  He developed UniCredit’s client offering by maximising cross-sales and value creation in the various divisions and business activities of the bank, as well as driving digital strategy and bringing about change in the bank’s service model.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Papa occupied various positions in UniCredit Group’s international divisions, serving as Director for Asia from 2000 to 2002, then as Director for the Americas from 2003 to 2005.  After serving as General Manager of UniCredit Bank Slovakia and Ukrosotsbank Ukraine between 2005 and 2010, he was appointed Head of the CEE division and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Bank Austria. From 2015 to 2016, he headed the Corporate & Investment Banking division and served as Group Deputy General Manager.  Mr. Papa is currently a Member of the Board of BPER Banca SpA, Chair of Casa di Cura La Madonnina SpA, a member of the Board of Istituti Clinici Zucchi SpA and Istituto Clinico Villa Aprica SpA.  He is a member of the Board of H.S. Raffaele Resnati SpA and an Executive Vice President of Relatech SpA.  Mr Papa has been awarded the highest honour of Commander of the Italian Republic.
