Preben Prebensen

Preben Prebensen is the former Chief Executive of Close Brothers Group, a UK merchant bank involved in specialist commercial lending, wealth management, and securities trading. The group is listed in London and is a constituent of the FTSE 250.

Mr Prebensen sits on the Board of The British Land Company plc, a FTSE 100 property development and investment company, and will be the Senior Independent Director from July 2020. He was formerly Group Chief Investment Officer and a member of the Group Executive Committee at Catlin, the international property and casualty insurer and reinsurer. He joined Catlin following the successful sale of Wellington Underwriting plc to Catlin in 2006. Mr Prebensen was responsible for setting and executing investment strategy and navigating the impact of the global financial crisis. He was previously Chief Executive Officer at Wellington which specialised in property and casualty underwriting, including catastrophic risk. The hurricanes of 2005 severely impacted the market and, at Wellington, required navigating the regulatory and financial impact, the sale of assets, and re-capitalization. Prior to that, Mr Prebensen spent over 20 years with JP Morgan in New York and London, ultimately leading the Investment Banking Coverage in UK and Scandinavia, co-heading European Investment Banking, and chairing the London Management Committee.
